She graduated from Grandview High School in 1951. Following her graduation, she went to work at AJ Stephens where she met the love of her life, Glenn Bales. They were married on October 18, 1952. She was a devoted housewife and was known for her sugar cookies and rolls. Barbara also enjoyed playing Bingo.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Shelton; and her husband, Glenn Bales.
She is survived by her two children, David (Cindy) Bales and Glenda Shikles; two brothers, Robert Shelton of Goodyear, AZ and Roger Shelton of Grandview, MO; four grandchildren: Kelly (Dave) Hanke, Pattie (Scott) Simmons, Mindy (Dave) Jurgens, and David (Meredith) Bales; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as many friends at Sterling Plaza.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM, service at 2 PM, on Wednesday, June 16, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
