Austin was a rambunctious kid. He enjoyed running around with his brothers and creating new games to master with friends. Many bumps, scrapes, and scars could be traced to backyard escapades and adventures crafted during his childhood.
He attended high school locally at BVNW with many close friends. His senior year he was elected Sweetheart King, to no one's surprise, as he had classic good looks and a talent for winning over his peers. Austin had a passion for acting, music and singing. The many musicals, plays and choral events he participated in were always enjoyed by his family and friends. He sang often, highlighted by winning the 2015 KC Superstar competition, which showcased the best high school vocal talent in the KC Metro area.
Austin started college at Notre Dame, where he was a part of the Men’s Glee Club. He transferred to and graduated from the University of Texas-Austin, also participating in a school A cappella group, and decided on pursuing a career in the Film industry. He moved to Los Angeles and began his career by proofing spec scripts for various production companies.
Austin was self-learning the guitar, and had a special talent for Johnny Cash's songs. Anyone who had ever heard Austin's voice could tell you it was unique. It had a deep, sonorous quality that rattled your ribcage and made an echo in your heart that lasted long after he left the room.
Austin was a kind, intelligent, patient and wonderful man with a passion for literature and the arts. He inspired everyone around him to be better, to think about the answers to life's difficult questions, and most importantly; to laugh. He had a most honest and genuine smile. Whenever he smiled, you wanted to smile along.
He went on many vacations with his loving family. South Dakota, where his parents were born and raised, was a common destination. The family cabin in the Black Hills was a special place for his family to escape together and relax. He loved the outdoors and often went camping, hiking and sometimes rock climbing in order to better experience the nature that exists outside of the confines of the concrete jungle where he made his home.
Trips to Yellowstone, Disney World, Washington DC and Europe created many fond memories. Most recently, the family went to New Zealand and Australia and added many wonderful memories exploring and laughing together. There was never a place or gathering that wasn't made more special by his presence.
Austin is survived by his loving parents, Greg and Sue, and his adoring older brothers, Kevin and Keith. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother Betty Klein, maternal grandfather Marvin Chamberlain and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. All of us love and treasure him very much and we will miss him immensely.
While we wanted to invite everyone, due to COVID-19 restrictions the 10AM Saturday memorial service will be a private ceremony.
