Art graduated from West Seattle High School in 1949 and attended Seattle Pacific College, University of Washington, Seattle and University of California at Santa Barbara, majoring in real estate. He served in the United States Navy, and upon his honorable discharge worked at McDonnell-Douglas.
As time passed, he started his own real estate business, Central Coast Realty, and became involved in the city of Lompoc, California, as well as various county and state committees. His accomplishments are many including Mayor of Lompoc, 1971 “Man of the Year of Lompoc”, Rotary Club, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, President of Lompoc Valley Board of Realtors, Co-Chairman of Space Shuttle Task Force for California (to bring the Space Shuttle to Vandenberg Air Force Base), California Water Advisory Board, Northern California Power Association, League of California Cities Revenue and Taxation and California Council on Criminal Justice. As you can see, Art’s motto was “to give back to the community and world in which you live”.
In 1978 Art moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he married Tricia and continued his career of developing real estate. When Tricia became Sales Manager with Merrill Lynch, they moved to Kansas City, MO. Art became a member of the Society of Exchange Counselors, a national organization of realtors. Upon Tricia’s retirement, they moved to Warrensburg, MO to, again, develop property.
He immediately became involved in the community serving as President of the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Military Affairs Committee, a board member of the Community Action Council with Whiteman Air Force Base and a member of the Presbyterian Church. He also was a consultant to the University of Central Missouri helping them to establish a Not-for-Profit Corporation to manage their real property assets and entrepreneurial projects.
After much deliberation, Art and Tricia moved back to Leawood, Kansas where they established many wonderful friendships. Art enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, snow skiing, boating, reading, all sports and – most of all CNN. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and a mentor to many individuals.
Art is survived by his wife of 37 years Tricia Scott, his children, Roberta Pickrell, Lila Etter, Lisa and her husband Scott Snavely, his sister Dorciane and her husband Andy Toth, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and his beloved and constant companion, Sophie.
He is predeceased by his son Ronald Scott (8/20/15), grandson Zachary Pickrell (10/8/03) and great granddaughter Eliana Lorio (10/8/07).
