Arlie, a son of Joseph Albert and Nora Edna (Hendrix) Jackson was born on October 30, 1931, near Tunas, Missouri.
He graduated from Tunas High School in 1949, and attended Longview Community College; Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was employed at Allied-Signal Corporation for thirty-two years, and at Internal Revenue Service for twenty-five years.
Arlie married the love of his life, Wanda Lee Moore, on June 30, 1962, at Broadway Baptist Church; Kansas City, Missouri. From this union, two children were born: Gregory "Gregg" and Cathie Lynn. He was a dedicated family man - always attending every event in which Gregg and Cathie were involved, and making sure they, along with Wanda, knew they were loved by him every day. He enjoyed fishing with his family and friends - especially fishing in the Little Niangua River with his family; following the Royals, Chiefs, and MU Tigers; camping; gardening; reading western novels, and working on crossword puzzles.
He accepted the Lord as his Savior and was baptized as a young adult. He was a long-time member of Red Bridge Baptist Church, serving as the head usher position for many years, and enjoyed welcoming everyone with a smile and handshake, both young and old, to the church. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
Arlie was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force for four years, from 1951 to 1955. He spent his overseas duty on a special classified mission in Asmara, Eritrea East Africa. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, and Good Conduct Medal during his service.
He is survived by Wanda, his wife of over sixty years; his son, Gregg Jackson and wife Jennifer; daughter, Cathie (Jackson) Marcks and husband Keith; grandchildren: Katie Denney (Chad); Emily Helbig (Alex); Evan Marcks (Kelsey); Carlie Marcks; Quin Marcks; step-granddaughter, Kelsey Gavin (Taylor); step-grandson, Adam Ponton; and three great-grandchildren on the way; nephews: Sidney Swanigan; Terry Sherwood; Scott Willis; Bill Taylor; Larry Taylor; and nieces: Zena Hayes; Jewell Dryer; Linda Dryer; Peggy Jackson; Mary Lou Watts; Louise Willis; Denise Gilmore; Kay Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Myrtle Swanigan (Odas); Lester Jackson (Georgia); Bethel Hodges (Homer); Pearl Willis (James "Slim"); Olive Taylor (Johnny); and a brother and sister, deceased in infancy; nephews: Albert Swanigan; Cecil Swanigan; Lloyd Swanigan; Julius Jackson; nieces: Pauline Hayes; June Sutton; Sherry Smith.
Visitation and funeral are scheduled for Thursday, March 23, at Red Bridge Baptist Church; 4901 East Red Bridge Road; Kansas City, Missouri - Visitation at Noon, followed by the service at 1:00 PM. Burial with full military honors will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery South, Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Red Bridge Baptist Church.
