Born on April 2, 1931, Anthony found his greatest joy in the loving embrace of his family. For over 44 years, he shared an enduring love with his wife, Margaret. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories while raising three children.
After Margaret's passing in 2001, Anthony was blessed again to find lasting love with Marie Bishop, to whom he married on May 15, 2004. Their union of nearly 20 years expanded Anthony’s life as he embraced Marie’s family.
Anthony grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended Garfield Elementary School. At Northeast High School, he enjoyed the thrill of being on an undefeated championship football team. Although he was offered an opportunity to play football at the University of Missouri, Anthony passed on it to work to support his mother and two sisters. He had been devoted to caring for them since he was 13 years old when his father was killed in World War II. With great pride for his country, Anthony served as a U.S. Marine from 1952-1954.
While family was Anthony’s greatest joy, work was central to his life. In 1954, he embarked on a remarkable career, dedicating over four decades of service at the Kansas City Power & Light Company, working first in the tree trimming department before becoming a journeyman welder. Anthony was greatly admired as a craftsman and widely respected for his work ethic.
In his leisure time, Anthony was a passionate creator, finding joy in building, drawing, sketching, and painting. His creations, both big and small, were cherished by those fortunate enough to receive them.
Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Kelly Bonavia; his mother, Mary (Mangiaracina) Bonavia; two sisters, Carrie Bonavia and Johanna (Bonavia) Hooper; wife, Margaret (Vicari) Bonavia, and many loving family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie (Bishop) Bonavia; son, Kelly Bonavia (Jaymie); son, Mark Bonavia; daughter, Vanessa Bonavia; granddaughter, Meredith Bonavia; great grandson, Jack Ketchum; Marie’s daughter, Joni Hall (Timothy); daughter, Linda Chouteau; grandson, Samuel Hall (Abigayle); granddaughter, Sophia Hall; granddaughter, Dominica (Grater) Leone; grandson, David Grater (Denise); great granddaughter, Mia Leone; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation for Anthony will be held Monday, April 22, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO, 64131, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the church at 11:00 AM.
