Anita Iva Robison, 88, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away May 18, 2015 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. She will be laid to rest in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri next to her husband Dewayne, Tuesday, May 26.
Anita was born December 13, 1926 in Glen, Nebraska where she grew up on a ranch in Sioux County. She lived through the Great Depression and World War II. These experiences shaped her life. After finishing school, Anita became a school teacher, which was her mother’s personal dream. Realizing that this profession didn’t suit her, she went on to become a telephone operator for AT&T. On December 12, 1964, Anita married her husband, Dewayne, and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma which was her husband’s home. They bought property, built a house, and had two children. The family enjoyed a vast garden, raised animals for their own meat and, to the children’s delight, had horses they both could ride and enjoy. Described by her daughter as “the ultimate homemaker,” Anita cooked and canned from the garden, sewed clothing and upholstery, and babysat for the neighborhood children as well as her own. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor she could possibly be. Her faith and being a servant of God was a very important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents Earl D. and Iva L. (Hamaker) Nation; her husband Ira “Dewayne” Robison; and siblings and their spouses Edwin Nation, Merlin (Lucille) Nation, Clark (Betty) Nation, Eva (John) Gray, Elvin (Frances) Nation, Frances (Jack) Roberts, and Melvin (Thelma) Nation. Anita is survived by her children Nerissa A. Collins of Overland Park, Kansas and Darwin D. Robison (Donna M. Hughes) of Springfield, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Raymond Widel of Sedalia, Missouri; grandchildren Seth D. Robison of Fayette, Missouri, Madeline A. Halamaj of Glenview, Illinois, Blake A. Lance of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Derek L. Hughes of Springfield, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
