Andrew Milton Bracken, 70, of Kansas City, MO passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25th in Andy and Alice's back yard.
Andy was born December 8, 1950 to John and Virginia Bracken. Until the age of 13, Andy lived in Lenexa, KS living a farm boy’s life including riding his beloved horse Comaneci and barrel racing in 4-H rodeos.
Moving to Kansas City , Andy attended Visitation grade school and graduated from De La Salle High School class of 1969. He then joined the Naval Reserve, serving in the weather service program in New Jersey.
Andy then graduated from UMKC with a degree in psychology. He was a lifelong sales man, retiring from United Beverage. Andy didn’t really retire, he just changed course, volunteering many hours at Redemptorist Senior Center and Shepherd’s Center of KC becoming a sought after Medicare counselor.
Andy was especially proud and supported his wife Alice’s work at Missouri Reparatory Theater. He was a dedicated Chiefs season ticket holder and when not present at the game would watch it at his favorite watering hole, Corner Cocktail. He also was a big fan of The KC Blues Rugby team.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Alice Bracken Carroll of the home, her daughter Jennifer Baltes, Dexter his dog, and Andy’s siblings John (Karen) Bracken of Easton, NH, Bill (Kathy) Bracken of Chicago IL, Barbara (Mike) Sharkey of Kansas City, MO, Susan (Janet) Bracken of Denver CO and Pat (Kathy) Bracken of International Falls, MN. Andy had a special bond with his nieces and nephews. Much to their parents dismay Andy would give them their first driving lesson, on his lap while going Sunday mornings to pick up donuts. That love continued with his great nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. Preceding Andy in death were his parents John and Virginia Bracken and Andy’s dogs Monty and Samdog.
Andy chose to donate his body to the Willed Body Program to support medical education and research.
Should you choose to remember Andy, he requested your consideration of a donation to support dog rescues at Wayside Waifs www.waysidewaifs.org
