Amelia Lomas Florez

Amelia Lomas Florez, 89 of Kansas City, MO died Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza. Funeral services will be Monday, March 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 w. Linwood, KCMO. Burial will be in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 9 from 2-4 p.m. at the chapel.

Amelia, known to her family as Aunt Mathie was born June 14, 1924 in Kansas City, MO to Francisco L. and Maria Diaz Serrato Florez. She was a seamstress in the garment industry for many years. Even though she had no children of her own, Amelia was a mother to all of family. In addition to her parents, Amelia was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnie Lomas and Charlie Lomas; three sisters, Angie, Natalie and Pauline; two nieces, Michaela and Michelle and one nephew, Jimmy. Aunt Mathie’s survivors include her sister, Candelaria Hickey; 22 nieces and nephews, Terry, Paula, Roxanne, Dawn, John, Vicki, Rita, Katie, Renee, Linda, Ralph, Rick, Maria, Theresa, Phillip, Frank, Mona, Mary, Mitch, Lorri, Toni, and Alex.
