Funeral services are 7:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2023, with a visitation at 6:00 PM at the McGilley Antioch Chapel. Graveside services are 10:00 AM Friday, January 6th at Leavenworth National Cemetery where Alma will be laid to rest with her husband, Howard.
Alma was born February 19, 1941 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico to Felix and Maria Del Carmen (Crespo) Soto. At the age of 5, Alma and her family moved to New York City. On March 12, 1961 she married Howard Sly. They lived in Puerto Rico while Howard was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Later they lived in North Carolina before moving to Kansas City where Howard was employed with Trans World Airlines. Alma was a licensed beautician working in numerous beauty salons through the years. She was a skilled seamstress employed by area restaurants, bridal stores, and also performed alterations at her residence. Throughout her life Alma was much loved by all who knew her.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; and a brother, Felix.
Survivors include three children, Roxann Mallory, Donna Patterson, and David Sly; 4 grandchildren, DeRod Jordan, Rico Jordan, Braeden Mallory, and Erynn Sly; 2 great grandchildren, Shepherd Bennett Jordan and Ezra Howard Jordan; 2 sisters, Carmen Soto and Mary Newton; nephews and niece, Kevin Newton, Andrew Newton, Jeffrey Sly, and Liesl De Martini; sister-in-law, Marie Sly; and former daughter-in-law, Sarah Sly.
