Aletha Mearl (Suess) Lamb was born on September 19, 1926 in Chamois, Missouri to William J. Suess and Verlenia (Walker) Suess. She passed away on January 15, 2021 in Lee's Summit, MO surrounded by her family. Due to the COVID-19 concerns her services will be private.
Aletha worked for Bendix and retired in her early 50’s. Her and her husband Dale moved to Stockton Lake where they built a new brick house to retire to. They loved to work outdoors. They kept at least one acre of land mowed and manicured; cut wood to burn in furnaces and fireplaces. Dale grew a huge garden and Aletha canned and froze all the vegetables. All the children and grandchildren loved to stay and eat all of Aletha’s great cooking.
Dale had some health concerns, so they moved to Lee’s Summit to be closer to children and grandchildren. Aletha was an avid quilter and had one going at all times, until she couldn’t see the needle to thread. In her early years she worked in garment and hat factories, so sewing was a part of her life. Aletha tackled many projects including pleated curtains (144 yards of fabric), clothes for her children and of course, piecing quilts.
Aletha was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Verlenia Suess; her sisters, Wilma M. Troesser, Everen B. Peters, Verna K. Edwards, Fern A. Collins and Emma L. Mantle; her brother, William (Sonny) Suess; her husband, Dale G. Lamb and their son, Donald Earl Lamb. She is survived by daughters, Shirley A. Emmert (David) and Gale Mullins (Cliff); daughter-in-law, Jan Walkins; grandchildren, Annique Mullins, Melody Brooks, Mirriam Emmert, Sam Lamb, Jacob Emmert; and Katie Pieper and great grandchildren, Jeffery Dale Mullins, Lily Brooks, Ben Brooks and Owen Hannah.
Aletha will be greatly missed and her memory will be forever cherished.
