Alberta Louise Powell, 93, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Menorah Medical Center, from her battle with liver cancer. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 24th, 11:00 a.m., at Covenant Chapel, 13300 Kenneth Road, Leawood, KS, 66209, with burial following in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Chapel.
Alberta was born January 20, 1919, in Belleville, Kansas. She treasured a 40 year marriage to Francis Powell, rearing their two daughters, Connee and Julona. Alberta taught school in the Muncie and Turner School Districts from 1954 to 1981. She served as past president of the Lindbergh PTA and also the first president of the Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. Alberta was also a life member of the National Education Association. Although currently a member of Covenant Chapel an Evangelistic Presbyterian Church, she had been part of the congregations at Fairview Baptist, Leawood Baptist, and Emmanuel Baptist.
Alberta is survived by her daughters, Connee Sanders and Julona Stallard; grandchildren, Stephen Sanders, Whitney Stallard, Don E. and Brandon Gaines; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Zachariah, Josiah, Elijah, Jacob, Courtney and Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
