She met the love of her life, Thomas “Tommy” Hawkes and they married in January of 1982, residing in his hometown of Longview, Texas. While in Longview, she was an active member of Greggton Baptist Church, and was known to share her many recipes with fellow parishioners. Winnie was an avid collector of coins, cookie jars, and Depression-era glass, enjoyed gardening, and fishing trips with Tommy. She remained in Texas, providing end-of-life care for Tommy through his fight with cancer. Although she was strong-willed and independent, Winnie had a generous and loving heart, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
