Willie D. Major, 80, of Kansas City, Kansas departed this life on April 11, 2016. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1610 N 10th St., Kansas City, KS 66102. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. preceding the service at the church. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Willie was born October 23, 1935 in Idabel, Oklahoma to parents, Norma McCullough and Sylvester Major. He was employed at Abrassive Engineer and Dehoff Tool & Die, where he retired after twenty years. Willie married Katie Brown in July of 1988. He loved to watch football and baseball and he especially enjoyed watching old Westerns on TV. Willie also liked to play dominoes.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was united with Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church on November 22, 1981 under the leadership of Rev. A. J. Foster. Willie was very involved with the church and often assisted in the kitchen and cleaning the sanctuary.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Katie B. Major; one sister, Opal Brown of Fresno, CA; one son, Willie Major, Jr. (Tammy) of Arlington, TX; daughters Crystal and Carmelita Major of KCKS; one granddaughter, Haley Major of Arlington, TX; one step-son, Victor Stamps (VaLori) of KCKS; nephews, Harold and Keith Major of Monroe, LA; Carlos Major of KCKS; and a host of nieces and other relatives and friends.
