William Edward “Boots” Thompson Jr, 84, of Bonner Springs, KS was born on February 22, 1938, in Kansas City, KS to the late William Fred and Julia Frances Thompson. William went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at 8:36pm at the Advena Nursing Facility in Bonner Springs, KS.
Until his failed health, William attended First AME Church, Kansas City, KS, where he was active and known for his selfless participation and support.
William, better known to most as “Boots” was educated in the Kansas City Kansas Public Schools and graduated from Sumner High School (Kansas City, KS) Class of 1956. He then furthered his education in Ohio at Wilberforce University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force at Francis E Warren Airfare Base and served his country as an MP (Military Police) in Cheyenne, Wyoming. There he met and married his wife of 35 years, Annette Bannister on August 13, 1967. And to this union were born two beautiful children Roslyn and Keto.
He was employed as a traveling-salesman for Holt, Rinehart and Winston Publishing Co. in Chicago, a Skycap for Delta Airlines in Kansas City, a mail handler for The United States Postal Service and he was also a teacher at Pleasant Green Baptist School.
During his lifetime, Boots enjoyed famed biographies, music, reading and sports. His all time favorite musicians were Stevie Wonder and George Benson. He was big on politics and education. But most of all he was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan.
William leaves to mourn and will be forever cherished by his two sisters and one brother: Wylma Bradshaw, Colorado Springs, CO; Judith Douglas, Santa Cruz, CA; and Paul A. Thompson (Belinda) of Antioch, CA. Daughter Roslyn Jackson (Maurice); Grandchildren Mikayla and Brandan Jackson of Kansas City, KS; Christopher Thompson of Gladstone, MO; and Isaiah Thompson of Warrensburg, MO; Aunt Barbara C Williams of Parkville, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
William “Boots” Thompson, Jr was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him and crossed his path.
A visitation for William will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a funeral service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
