Viola M. Greve, age 100, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, peacefully at Villa of St. Francis. Visitation will be held Tuesday April 4th, from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm, with the rosary to be prayed at 5:00 pm at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N 94th St, in KCK. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 15440 Leavenworth Rd, Basehor, KS 66007. A graveside service will be immediately following at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in the Mausoleum in Kansas City, KS.
Viola was born in Clay Center, KS on June 6th, 1922 to Benjamin R. Steding and Pearl (Miller) Steding. She went to St Thomas Catholic Church and School in Armourdale, and attended Argentine High School. She was married to Albert S. Greve, the love of her life at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Armourdale.
Viola retired in 1984 from Inter-Collegiate Press after working there for 23 years. She was president of the Go Getters at Christ the King Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS. She was also an altar server and a member of the Altar Society.
Viola loved to sew, crochet, knit, embroidery, and making homemade quilts; all done by hand. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She also enjoyed watching the KC Royals and Chiefs. She loved to travel, especially to Colorado.
The family appreciates all of the understanding and compassionate care that was given to Viola from the staff at Villa St. Francis and Catholic Community Hospice.
Preceding Viola in death was her husband, Albert S. Greve; one daughter, Rose Marie Young; two sisters, Rose Marie Steding and Helen Davis-Mikesell; and one son-in-law, Carl Baker.
Survivors include her two sons, George A. (Pearl) Greve of Thayer, MO and Tim (Mary) Greve of Kansas City, KS; two daughters, Joyce Baker of Kearney, MO and Debbie (Bob) Dercher of Kansas City, KS; one son-in-law, Bud Young of Olathe, KS; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Holy Angels Catholic Church or Villa St. Francis.
Viola had a great love for her Catholic faith and her entire family. Her memory will be treasured forever. We love you mom and we will miss you!
