Vanessa Claradene Hadley Baxter was born August 14, 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Robert L. Hadley Sr. and Connie Q. Franklin Hadley. Vanessa grew up in Edwardsville, Kansas and attended Timmons Elementary, Bonner Springs Jr. High and Bonner Springs High School. She also attended Kansas City Kansas Community College for one year and studied business. In 1972 she married John W. Cobbins Jr. and to this union was born four sons, John A, Deon K, Christopher D and Andre W. Cobbins. On September 8, 2012 Vanessa married her life partner, friend, soul mate -Daniel K. Baxter.
Vanessa retired from Social Security Administration in December 2007 after 37 years of service. She worked in various components and cities throughout her career. After her “retirement” she went to work for the 2010 Census which is where she met Daniel Baxter. When that job was over, she went to work for Zack Group and worked from 2010 through 2017. Once again, she retired.
Vanessa accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Elder T.L. Pleas of Olivet Church of God in Christ, in Big Eleven Lake, in Kansas City, Kansas. She alternately attended Gethsemane Baptist Church with her father, and Olivet Church of God in Christ with her mother. Later in life she became a member of the Worship Center of Kansas City under the leadership of Pastor Eric Cobbins and later transferred her membership to Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jim Preisig.
Vanessa was known for her kind heart, compassionate nature, and above all her love of her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: Her husband Daniel K. Baxter, her children John A. (Kara), Deon K. (LaTrice), Chris D. (Alisha), Andre W. (Nicole), Tami Hausner (Paul), Keri Robertson (P. J.), Kevin Baxter (Katia); her grandchildren Vanessa Paige Watts (Justin), MaLik Cobbins (Mikayla), Terasa Tecuatl Segovia (Jonathan), Layla Cobbins, Kaila Segovia, Chris Cobbins Jr., Isaiah Cobbins, Cataleya Cobbins, Kehlani Cobbins, Nick Austin, Jake Austin Baxter (Brandi), Baxter Robertson and Samuel Baxter; her great grandchildren Mateo, Marcelo and Natalia Tecuatl Segovia, Giovanni Hernandez Segovia; and her brother Robert L. Hadley Jr.
Those that proceeded her in death: Her father Robert L Hadley Sr., her brother Walter D. Hadley, and her mother Connie Q. Hadley.
