We were so sorry to hear of your loss.  The thoughts of many are with you at this time of sorrow.

Sylvia was a special teacher and friend to her students and staff members at John Fiske. She was truly dedicated to her teaching and was very compassionate to all her students. She was very giving not only to her students, but to the staff as well. We are reminded of Sylvia by the donation of her special library of books. When she retired, she divided her children and educational books to her fellow teachers. As I open one of her books to read to my students and see her name at the top, I smile and remember a good friend.

As a beginning teacher, I enjoyed Sylvia's advice and sense of humor. She was always very supportive. I was fortunate to work with her at John Fiske for several years. She left a legacy there! :)

The pages of my growing-up years are often covered with days shared with Sylvia. From shopping on Minnesota Avenue to traipsing through South Dakota...from laughing together on the yard swing to driving to visit family in Arkansas...my childhood was happy in good part due to Sylvia. She will be missed, and forever loved.

I fondly remember the years that I worked with Sylvia at John Fiske.  We both enjoyed Children's Literature, in particular Beverly Cleary.

Sylvia lived next door to me most of my life and was a valued friend and cousin.  Acting more as an Aunt, she babysat me as a young child and frequently shared a story about me climbing out on the roof where she could not reach me. Sylvia was a true person, avid reader, caretaker to her family and all in need.  Should you visit her yard, you would always hear, "you don't have to rush off!" as you were leaving.  Sylvia gave my youngest daughter her favorite book, 'Goodnight Moon', and always encouraged her scholastic endeavors. Many hours were dedicated by Sylvia to her family and hundreds of meals were consumed at the house with Midge and Bill.
My family will miss her and know her Christian heart resides in His safe arms. Sylvia, for a life given to children and family, we thank you.  You will be sadly missed.

Sylvia had a heart of gold when it came to teaching and caring for kids.  She will be greatly missed.

Two of my children had Sylvia as a teacher at John Fiske, I am also a staff member there.  Sylvia cared for her students deeply, if she had a student who was in need, she would purchase clothing or shoes for them.  She not only taught them reading, writing and math she taught them the essentials for every day life

The staff at John Fiske School was very saddened at the loss of Silvia.  She was one of our beloved teachers here at John Fiske.  She will be missed greatly.

To Midge and friends of Sylvia,  I am sorry for your loss and know Sylvia will be missed but can be comforted to know she is now with Jesus.
