Stephen Michael O'Dell, "Noodle", age 74, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 26, 2024. He was born on August 22, 1950 to Vivian A. Lewis in KCMO. Services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at St. Peter's Cathedral 416 N. 14th Street Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 10:00-ll:00am with mass following at 11:00am.
He worked for the Parks and Recreation Department of Kansas City, KS. During that time, he enjoyed refereeing volleyball and basketball at Kensington Gym. He then began his career at BPU in 1979 as a janitor and in maintenance. He worked his way up to become the Senior System Operator and achieved his Class IV Operator Certification. He worked at Quindaro Water Plant from 1979-2000 before transferring to Nierman Water Plant in 2000-2006 where he retired after 27 years.
Steve had many interests and was an avid sports fan. He loved all things Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawk Basketball. He enjoyed playing fastpitch softball with his childhood friends, was a bowler who achieved many perfect games and has the rings to prove it. In retirement he took up golfing, gambling, and traveling. He was very involved with his grandchildren and loved going to any sporting event or activity they participated in.
Steve is survived by his partner of 8 ½ years, Paula Brillhart; his three children, son Pat (Jennifer) O'Dell of Kansas City, KS, daughter Sandy (Jay Cross) Doering of Basehor, KS and daughter, Kim Bennett of Leavenworth, KS; his six grandchildren, Ryan (Savannah) O'Dell of Roeland Park, KS, Jacob (Ashley) Bennett of Kansas City, KS, Kelsey O'Dell of Kansas City, KS, Meghan (Alesia) Bennett of Mission, KS, Zachary Doering of Kansas City, MO and Nicholas Doering of Basehor, KS; one great-grandchild, Harper Bennett; siblings; Chris Jones of Odessa, MO, Paula (Jesse) Dominguez of Kansas City, KS and John Lawrence of Clearwater, FL and many other extended family and dear friends.
He is proceeded in death by his mother, Vivian A. Lewis, and step-father Edwin "Wayne" Lewis.
Steve was a wonderful father, Papa, brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was always willing to help anyone out and was a man of integrity. His faith was a huge pillar in his life. He will be missed each and everyday and his family will never be the same.
