Shirley Jean Wiehe, 74, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, February 08, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 10th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Kansas. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that any contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
Shirley was born January 7, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MI to Howard and Edith (Kline) Sonneveldt. She lived in Arizona a short time, before her family moved to the Kansas City Area in 1951. She worked at the Leavenworth County Courthouse in the 1960’s, before working in the Cafeteria at Providence Hospital. After dedicating herself to being a Stay At Home Mom for 16 years, Shirley went back to work in 1996. She was a Deli worker for Balls Grocery Store and Hen House Grocery Store, before joining the Cafeteria Staff at Sumner Academy until she retired in 2003. She loved cooking and baking, and her creative spirit made her a natural at making wedding cakes and beautiful floral arrangements. She also enjoyed watching television, especially mysteries and cooking shows.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Norma Jean Sonneveldt in 1958, and her husband of 19 years, Billy Dean Wiehe, when he died in 1998.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Theno and her husband Kevin of Kansas City, KS; her brother, Jerry Howard Sonneveldt of Kansas City, KS; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Theno and Dylan Theno; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
