Mr. Jones was born on August 1, 1949 in Leavenworth, Kansas. The son of William Jones and Dorothy Mae Smith. He was an Army Veteran. Russel and Shirley were joined in marriage in Kansas City, Kansas on October 16, 1981. He retired from the VA after 25 years and then worked Security for several years. Russel was a HUGE Raiders fan and enjoyed tinkering.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Daniel Jones, John Henry Jones and Charles Robards, Jr.
Survivors are his wife of 42 years Shirley Jones. Three daughters: Tamara Upshaw (Ahmad), Sharmain Jones- Dean (K-Saun) and Amy Williams. Along with his son Carlos Jones (Donna). Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Brothers: Ernest Jones, Freddrick Jones and Wayman Robards. Sisters: Elizabeth Jones, Ruth Jones and Kathy Jones. Several Nieces and Nephews and a host of friends.
A visitation for Russel will be held Friday, July 14, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. A funeral services will occur Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Hospital. 501 St. Jude Place; Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
