Ron was truly an original Dotte, growing up in Kansas City, Kansas he graduated from Wyandotte High School and received his associates degree from Donnelly College.
Ron began his career mopping floors and washing dishes at Rosedale BBQ. Learning the barbeque business from the likes of Anthony Rieke, he quickly moved from manager to making his own mark on the barbeque scene of Kansas City. Ron opened Wyandot Barbeque in 1977 at 84th and State Avenue and later a second location at 75th and Metcalf. The barbeque has been a staple to its many loyal customers for the last 45 years and continues to serve its tasty ribs, burnt ends, fries, and hot pickles.
Ron’s hobbies included raising and showing Great Danes, watching Dale Earnhardt drive in NASCAR, and collecting Hot Rods. When he wasn’t showing dogs, or restoring classic cars in his shop, you could find Ron at Wyandot Barbeque, enjoying a Miller Lite. From his spot at the bar, he would say hello to his many friends and family as they passed through the doors of the BBQ each day.
Ron is survived by his children Tracy Ogle, Sheri Hurt, Kari Casteel (Jeff), Ronny Jo Williams, Dawn Williams, Ron Williams II (Amanda), Alexandra Williams (Chris), 11 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 14 great grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
