Robert “Bob” E. Gress, 81, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016. Bob was born March 12, 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas to Cleveland and Mary (Haff) Gress. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and married Nora J. Gress on December 31, 1961. Bob worked as a union fabrication for the Sprinkler Fitters, Local #314. During his time living in Tonganoxie, Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and when he moved back to Kansas City, he was a member of Holy Family where he served as an usher and worked as a bartender at the Holy Family club. Bob is a Past Faithful Captain and honor guard commander for the Knights of Columbus. In his free time, he enjoyed watching football, spending time at the lake on his speedboat, camping and taking trips to the west coast to enjoy the ocean. Before the passing of his wife, Nora on June 28, 2010, Bob and Nora enjoyed going on Sunday rides on their motorcycle.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Mary; siblings, Mary Jane Weaver, Charles, William, Virgil, Grover, Herman and George Gress; and wife, Nora.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a daughter, Carol R. Cornwell; granddaughter, Carletta and her husband, Aaron Murray; great-granddaughter, Aveleen Anora-Rose Murray; and siblings, Raymond Gress, Harold Gress, Warren Gress and June Bryant.
A visitation will be Tuesday, October 4th from 5:30-7:30pm with the Rosary to be prayed at 7p.m. at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 274 Orchard Street, Kansas City, Kansas, 66101.
