Richard E. “Dick” Day, 75, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 15th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Dick was born August 24, 1936 in Beanville, Vermont to Robert and Ruth (Spooner) Day. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving on the Aircraft Carriers USS Forrestal and USS Lake Champlain, and he met his bride to be, Dolores Helen Richards while stationed in Olathe, Kansas. Dick worked for 35 years as a Plant Operator for Phillips Petroleum Company, and lived in the Kansas City Area until 1982, when they transferred him to Seiling, Oklahoma, and he returned to the area in 2005. He enjoyed collecting guns, collecting and restoring cars, and he was a member of the Woodward Rodders Club in Woodward, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 40 years, Dolores Helen Day when she passed away August 31, 2000.
Survivors include his 3 children, Laurie Ann Kepler and her husband Michael Alan of Kansas City, Kansas, Julie Elaine Kinnison and her husband Ralph William of Kansas City, Missouri, and Robert Edward Day and wife Cindy Adkins of Kansas City, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Michael Ryan Kepler of Kansas City, Kansas, Whitney Nichole Kinnison of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Dillon Marie Kinnison of Kansas City, Missouri, Haley Renee Kinnison of Kansas City, Missouri, Jennifer Nicole Silcott and her husband Wayne of Fairview, Oklahoma, and Maighen Lucas-Day of Kansas City, Kansas; 3 great grandchildren, Brianna, Gracie and Raylee; 1 brother, Robert Day of Randolph, Vermont; and 1 brother-in-law, E. K. “Bud” Richards and his wife Janet of Shawnee, Kansas.
