Rex D. Richter, 81, of KCK, passed away May 7, 2013. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Graveside services with Military Honors will be 3:00 p.m., Fri., May 10, 2013 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Rex was born April 5, 1932 in Cherokee, OK to Delmer G. and Blanch (Stallings) Richter. He graduated from Erie, KS High School in 1950. Rex received a basketball scholarship to attend Parsons Junior College then KS State Teacher’s College in Pittsburg, KS, where he graduated in 1956. During this time, Rex also served his country in the US Army from 1952-54 as a Batallion Chief Clerk, Company Clerk, ending as a Corporal. Rex married Mary Richter on Jan. 27, 1965 and they enjoyed eight wonderful years together before she passed in 1973. He and his wife Mary owned and operated Proud Mary’s Bar & Grill in KCMO, then he bartended at Buttonwood Tree Inn & Pub, and a library attendant at Donnelly College. Rex was a former VFW member and enjoyed listening to old-time country western music, collecting books and records, woodworking, and received a patent for his tanning board. In his younger years, he played basketball and football and later in life, was an avid walker and always watched college basketball.
Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Richter, his parents, Delmer and Blanch Richter, sister, Shirley Jarboe and step-son, William Bright.
He is survived by his daughter Rachelle Shriver and her husband Randy and their two sons, Riley and Drake; step-daughter, Carol Warford and her husband James; step-son, Joseph Bright and his wife Martha; brother, Earl Glen Richter and his wife Pat of Stockton, KS; as well as other relatives and friends.
