He was born on October 24, 1955 in Newport, Rhode Island to Michael and Ruth (Turner) Burns. After moving around for the military, the Burns family settled in El Paso, Texas where Pat met Patricia (Romo) while working at Providence Memorial Hospital. They were married in 1985 and moved to Kansas for Pat’s job in 1991. They settled in Overland Park and had a wonderful life together for 36 years.
Pat started working in IT in 1991 and held several different support positions until his retirement in 2020. His hobbies included cooking, reading, and watching videos of his grandson, Owen. Pat loved sports and was a swimmer for most of his life. While his daughters were growing up, Pat was an active volunteer and coach for all of their sports, clubs, and teams. He loved being there for every activity. He also loved rooting for all of the Kansas City sports teams. Pat lived for his family. He lit up anytime Patricia walked into the room, and loved talking about Meghan and Maddie’s interests with them. He liked giving his siblings a hard time and reminiscing about old times. He had a knack for making every person he encountered feel special and cared for.
He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Ruth. Pat is survived by his best friend and wife Patricia “Pretty Pat” (Romo) Burns; his loving children Meghan and husband Eric Thomas, and Madison Burns; his “Little Buddy” (grandson) Owen Patrick Thomas; brother Mike Burns; and sisters Jane Burazer and Barbara Newberry. He will be dearly missed by “Pretty” Pat’s family - Virginia (Sean), Linda, Chris, Dave (Isabel), Liz, and Rose (Brian); and many nieces, nephews, and their children.
Services are currently being planned for a later date.
