Norman Scott Williams, age 83 passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023. Norman was born on March 2, 1940 to Scott Williams and Mary (Sopcich) Williams in Kansas City, KS. He was the first of there 3 children with his sisters Marilyn and Gloria following. Because he was also the very first Grandchild on both sides of the families, the girls have said he was just a little spoiled. The family lived on Garfield street where Norman attended Abbot Elementary School. His first 2 to 3 high school years were at Wyandotte High School. Then the family moved out to Webster Street and Norman graduated from Washington in 1958. When he was a Senior in school he had an appendicitis that burst and was infected. It was life threating he spent a long time in the hospital and missed over 6 weeks of school. He joked that they must have passes him because they felt sorry for him.
Norm was always working somewhere, even when he was young, in Elementary school, he got a little part time job helping the janitor after school so he could make some extra money. While in high school he worked for the Kansas City Star newspaper on the weekends stuffing the newspaper with ads. After high school a friend told him that Hallmark cards was hiring so he put his application in there, along with a couple hundred other guys. His friend was hired at Hallmark and he told them that Norman would have to work too because Norm was his ride to work. I guess that worked because Norm worked there 41 years till he retired early in 1999. He still keeps in touch with some of his dear friends he made there.
Norm met his wife Betty, on Halloween at a dance and they were married 7 months later in 1987. They just celebrated their 36th anniversary. The couple went on a cruise for their honeymoon and that started their love of cruising and travelling. Along with their travelling buddies, Betty's sister and husband Karen and Bruce Greer, Norm's sister Marilyn, Don, Gloria and Frank they have been from Alaska, to Russia, to Hawaii and many places in between.
Norman and Betty are members of Crossroads Christian Church. There they volunteered to get the bulletins ready each week for church. Norm loved that task and liked to talk guns with some of the other volunteers. He liked to collect guns and was a firm believer in "right to carry." Norm loved animals and they seemed to always collect at their house, when someone had a dog, cat, chicken, or whatever, and didn't want them, the Williams' always ended up giving them a home.
Norm had a deep faith and loved the Lord. He had no doubt he would see our Savior some day. He loved his family and was a good provider.
He is survived by his wife Betty of 36 years, his daughter Dianna Neadechiser, his son Steve Williams and 3 bonus sons, Jade, Derek and Brandon Goss. Sister Marilyn (Don) Steury of Phoenix, Gloria Holmes Basehor, 6 grandchildren Dustin, Darla, Darren, Danielle, Katelyn and Landon. 2 great grandchildren, Easton and Camden, and many nieces nephews and cousins.
