Mike was born on March 7, 1960 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the son of Gerald and Carol Sprague and grew up in Kansas City alongside his four siblings, Debbie, Sheri, Brian and Staci. Growing up Mike was an avid sports lover, both as a participant as well as a fan. He was a competitive swimmer and baseball & football were also among his favorites.
Mike was always interested in technology and after high school, he moved down to Texas where he began working as the “cable guy”. While work did not define Mike, he took pride in his work and made many friends along the way. Mike's Houston home was a common gathering place where people would drop in for a laugh, cold drink, or a bite of BBQ fresh off the pit. While a Kansas native, he enjoyed his time in Texas and became a life-long fan of baseball and football teams based out of Houston and Kansas City, rarely missing his favorite teams play.
When it came to classic rock, the music was never too loud for Mike. He shared his love of music with many and had a knack for finding the right song for each occasion. If you knew Mike, you probably share a song with him that commemorates your relationship and brings a smile to your face. In addition to music, Mike loved being an American. Later in life, Mike’s passion for politics was known to all he came in contact with.
Along with his first wife, Janice, Mike was dad to his three kids Michelle, Jason and Kim. He later married his ex-wife, Becky and became a stepdad to Mandy and Collin. His grandchildren Ethan, Cara, Colton, and Nora will cherish the stories and memories Mike imparted on us and hope to make him proud as they carry on his legacy.
In 2009, Mike moved back to his roots in Kansas City, Kansas where he enjoyed time with his family, sampling Kansas City BBQ, and the seasonal weather that Texas lacked.
