Michael James Kerns passed away February 7, 2023. Michael was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 28, 1962 to JD and Martha Kerns. Michael was proceeded in death by his mother Martha and dad JD, and his step mom Jackie Kerns, his two sisters, Wanda Maggard and Teresa Garren and two brothers Gary Bailes and Wayne Bailes.
Michael and his family lived in Kansas City, Missouri until Michael was 13. The family moved to Nevada, Missouri for 6 years. When Michael was 19, he moved back to the Kansas City, Kansas area. Michael married his beautiful wife Sherry in 1985.They enjoyed 38 wonderful years together. They have two sons, Matthew (Kristi) and Brandon (Jane) as well as two grandsons, Hudson and Mason. His grandsons quickly became his world next to his sons.
Michael worked extremely hard to provide for his family. He never hesitated to take the opportunity to help his friends. Michael had a passion for driving as a career. He started driving in his 20’s where he started as a city driver and worked his way to become over the road the road driver where he spent 35+ years. He has been thru 40 states and driven well over one million miles.
Michael had a passion for the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He shared many memories with his sons fishing and hunting, passing that passion down to them both. His family was his world and spending every second with them was his goal. His two grandsons became his world quickly and it was not uncommon to find him spending hours with them playing, watching movies and sharing snacks. Michael James Kerns will be sadly missed.
Michael leaves to mourn his wife of 38 years Sherry Kerns of Topeka, Kansas, his two sons Matthew Kerns (Kristi) of Topeka, Kansas, Brandon Kerns (Jane) of Kansas City, Kansas, grandsons Hudson James and Mason Paul, and one brother Donnie Kerns, Nevada, Missouri and two sisters Debbie Lopez of Kansas City, Kansas and Dana Clause, Lawrence, Kansas and a host of relatives.
