Michael R. Holmes, Sr., 58 of Kansas City, Kansas passed away October 14, 2011 at his home with his family present. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow In Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas

Mike was born April 7, 1953 in Winfield, Kansas. He graduated from Udall high School in 1971 as an All-American Tackle. He was a graduate of Christian Bible College and Seminary, Independence, Missouri, with a degree in Pastoral Studies. Mike served as pastor for churches in Coleta, Illinois, Rock Falls/Sterling, Illinois, Fort Dodge, Iowa and Kansas City, Kansas.

Mike is survived by his wife of 29 years: Christine; their sons and their wives: Peter M. and Stephanie Holmes, Michael R. and Mara Holmes, Jr., & Rod T. and Jacki DeWinkler; his daughter Luana M. DeWinkler; father: Barry Holmes; mother: Mary Joe Head; brothers: Steve Holmes & David and wife Kristine Holmes; sisters: Catherine and husband Thomas McElroy & Teresa and husband Jeff Higdon; and five beloved grandchildren: Willow Holmes, Kelsey Holmes, Brennan Risley, Peyton DeWinkler & GraceAnne Holmes.
