Mrs. Merry Christine Meli was born on December 26, 1950, in Kansas City, Kansas. A lifelong resident of Kansas City, Merry passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 25, 2023. She was 72 years old. Merry departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Her favorite place was wherever her grandchildren were, and she adored her family more than anything in this world. Married for 51 years, she shared a deep and enduring bond with her husband Larry, creating a lifetime of precious memories together.
A devoted parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Merry had a deep love for God. She even sponsored her son-in-law during his conversion to the Roman Catholic faith, a testament to her unwavering faith and commitment to her family.
Merry had a passion for scrapbooking and crafts, creating beautiful works of art and memories that reflected her creative spirit. She also had a fondness for jewelry and had a unique talent for putting together stylish outfits. She particularly loved to match her accessories and had an affinity for a good vest.
She was a founding member of the Steel Magnolias, a testament to her enduring friendships and the impact she made on those around her. In her adventurous spirit, Merry once enjoyed riding motorcycles and embarking on long trips, savoring the thrill of the open road.
Merry had a zest for life and cherished her vacations, whether with family or friends. Her love for travel and exploring new places was a testament to her joyful and sociable nature. Merry also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, where she would spend time playing slots, especially with her beloved mother-in-law.
For over 30 years, Merry dedicated herself to the students of Whitechurch Elementary School. As Mrs. Meli, she was a constant, comforting presence, touching the lives of countless schoolchildren and leaving an indelible mark on the school community.
But above all, Merry loved being a grandmother. Her favorite place in the world was the beach, and she relished several family vacations to the beach with her children and grandchildren, where the sun, sand, and sea provided the backdrop for unforgettable moments of joy, love, and togetherness.
While Merry has now left this world, her spirit and the love she shared with her family and friends will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She will be dearly missed and remembered for her unwavering love, boundless creativity, and the joy she brought to the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hill and Helen Hill, and her brother Todd Hill.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Meli, her children Tony Meli and Melissa Wagner, their spouses Kristen Meli and Chase Wagner, and seven grandchildren; Jack Garnero, Brayden Friedman, Theodore Wagner, Mattilyn Meli, Carmella Wagner, Francesca Wagner, and Vincent Meli.
A visitation for Merry will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1086 North 94th St, Kansas City, KS 66112, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
