Melvin M. Simmons, 94, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away April 12, 2019. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 11:00am, with visitation from 10:00-11am preceding the service at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Melvin was born March 9, 1925 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jesse and Edna Simmons. He was a member of the IBEW, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for over thirty years. Melvin worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. He was joined in marriage to Norma Jean Webb in 1963. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage until her passing in 2015. Melvin enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially boating and skiing on the Missouri river and fishing, as well as traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Jean Simmons; his brothers, Jesse Simmons, Wendell Simmons, and Wayne Simmons.
Melvin is survived by his siblings, Richard L. Simmons (Lavine), Gerald Simmons, and Betty J. Powell; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
