Mary Elizabeth was born in Chandler, Oklahoma on May 19, 1926. She was one of nine children born to Willie (Humphrey) and George Love. At age six, her family moved to Stillwater. She attended Washington School. She met her life long companion Herman Boyce and married him in 1944, after graduating from high school.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at a very young age. After moving to California in 1946, she became a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. Her family remained members there until moving to Kansas City in 1976. They joined King Solomon Baptist Church. Then later became members of Walnut Missionary Baptist Church.
Mary was a housewife who began taking care of children when her first grandchild was born in 1963. She continued to keep children until 1994. She later began working at Central Kitchen for the KCK School District until 2007.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Herman, her daughter Herma Leigh Williams, three brothers: M.D. Love, George Love, Jr., and James Taylor and two sisters: Lovie Mitchell and Dorothy Lawson.
Mary will be remembered for her love of children and her dedication to her family. She possessed a very bubbly, uplifting personality. Mary was often pointed out for being "the woman with the snappy comebacks." She enjoyed fishing on the weekends and playing card games with friends and family. She lived a very full life including traveling around the world. She will be truly missed and loved forever.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Mary Jo Barron (Otis); 2 grandchildren: Damon Reddick and Karen Clemoens; 7 great grandchildren: Brandon and Keiauna Clemoens, Shelby, Aryssa, Jenessa, Mariah and Michael Damon Reddick; one sister, Richie Brooks and one brother Willard Love; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 22 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home and Cemetery, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. The family has chosen a private burial.
