Martha Elaine Cowan, 78, passed away July 5, 2013. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 10th at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street., Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral service will be Thursday, July 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National Kidney Foundation, 6405 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66202.
Martha was born October 28, 1934 to John & Edith Tritle. She spent her life in the KCK area and married Calvin S. Cowan on May 26, 1951. Martha worked in various Doctors’ offices and retired from Providence Medical Center after 17 years of service. Her hobbies included: sewing, crafts, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She received the Heart Association Award for saving her granddaughter, Jessica’s life by using CPR on her when she was 4 months old, she is now 24.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, John & Edith Tritle; husband, Calvin S. Cowan and daughter, Cheryl Ann Cowan. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Brosius of KC, MO.; six sons, Gary Cowan and wife Sharon of Lenexa, KS, William (Bill) Cowan of KC, KS, Ken Cowan and wife Patty of Tonganoxie, KS, Richard Cowan and wife Christina of Cross Timbers, MO, Chris Cowan of Lee’s Summit, MO, Scott Cowan and wife Sheila of KC, KS; two sisters, Jeanette Posten of Topeka, KS, Marilyn Goertz and husband Delbert of Wichita, KS; and one brother, John (Jack) Tritle and wife Barbara of KC, KS; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
