Marge graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1936, went on to Business College and worked as a secretary for Colgate-Palmolive in Kansas City, Kansas until she married William Sidney O’Bryan, Jr. in 1939.
Marge was an active member of the Altar Society of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, providing handmade quilts and other items to servicemen. She was a charter member of the “Sew and So” Club which developed into a close-knit group of pals who continued to meet socially for many years. She was also active in Argentine-Rosedale Community Development and a key player in the conceptualization of Franklin Center.
Marge was exemplary as a legal secretary for attorney, Lloyd Alvey and attorney, Mike Jarvis. She was a member and officer of the Wyandotte County Chapter of KALS (Kansas Association of Legal Secretaries) until her retirement in 1984. She then relocated to Lakeland, Florida caring for her ailing parents and continuing her selfless commitment to others and enjoying the warmer climate for over twenty years.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Cleveland and Elizabeth (Kinney) Hartley; her siblings, Grant and Dorothy; her husband, William Sidney; and three sons, Sid, Russell and Carl.
Survivors, who will forever miss her positive and generous spirit, include her children, Steve O’Bryan, Jeannie Mitchell (Bob Baska), Mark (Tammy) O’Bryan; granddaughters, Bridget Kelley, Erin Frey and Toni O’Bryan; great grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members, Amy (Frank) Lubich.
Visitation will be 11:00-1:00 pm and Funeral services at 1:00 pm, all on Wed., Oct. 21st at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. Interment will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Lenexa. Memorial contributions may be made to Asera Care Hospice.
