Maria (Ramirez) Diaz passed away from this life on May 4, 2018. She was born March 16, 1929 in Waynoka, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Ysaac Ramirez and Ysidra (Martinez) Ramirez. She is survived by her sister Nadine; brothers, Vincent and Lloyd; her eleven children; 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Maria met her late husband, Manuel Diaz, on a train traveling in Mexico. They corresponded while Manuel completed his tours of duty in Korea and were wed in Kansas City on February 9, 1953. She spent most of her adult life as an enthusiastic homemaker sewing school clothes for her daughters, crocheting numerous baby blankets, gardening in the summers and canning for the winters and maintaining order in a household of rambunctious children. She was devoted in her faith, always finding enough quiet time for herself in her daily tasks to say a rosary or novena. She was steadfast in her belief that one day she would shed the toils of life on earth and be reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas on Wednesday, May 9 at 11:00. Visitation will be prior to the mass from 10:00 to 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her memory. Interment to be at a future date.
