Maria Brysky, 94, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on November 14, 2020. A “drive-up” style visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 am at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Come, offer your condolences to Maria’s family and pay your final respects to Maria while following social distancing guidelines from the safety of your vehicle. Please use the North entrance to the cemetery. Following the visitation, there will be a Funeral Divine Liturgy at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1086 North 94 St, Kansas City, Kansas. Maria was born March 26, 1926 to Iwan and Elena Kiosow in Berdyansk Zaporizhzhia Ukraine. Maria grew up in the Ukraine and was taken captive by the German Army during WWII to a work camp. She worked on the railroad and a steel factory starting at the young age of 17. Maria, along with her parents and siblings, immigrated to the USA once the war was over. She reunited with the love of her life, John and they married on July 15, 1950. Maria retired in the 1980’s from a various professional cleaning career. She also worked at the GM Cafeteria Fairfax, Kansas for several years before her retirement. Maria was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. She enjoyed cooking and baking Ukrainian foods and sharing her recipes and her home was always open to others. She enjoyed cooking her specialties for all holidays. Maria was a shining star that was loved by so many and will be missed.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, John Brysky , 2 sisters, Irena Chongowa and Nadja Frolow, her twin brother of 3 weeks old, her youngest daughter, Valia Drake, her grandson Eric Roach, and son-in-law, Phillip Storie
Maria is survived by her children, Julie Storie of Shawnee, OK, Mike Brysky (Nancy) of Lenexa, Ks. and Anna Roach (Bill) of Raymore, MO. grandchildren, Matthew Drake (Sarah) Joshua Drake, Andrew Roach and Erin Wright (Ryan) her dear sister, Dora Stankewsky, her Brother Gene Kiosow (Dora) 8 step-grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren which include the newest additions of Layla, Johnny and Avery Drake, and many nieces, nephews, friends and wonderful neighbors.
