Mabel Ruth Romero of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on October 1st, 2019 at 81 years old. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7th, 2019 from 3:00-3:30 pm with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 8616 Haskell Ave, Kansas City, Kansas 66109. Interment will follow at San Luis Valley Cemetery in Monte Vista, Colorado 81144.
Ruth was born on June 6th, 1938 in Dixon, New Mexico to Moises and Irene Gonzales. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Education at Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. She married the love of her life; John Romero and they were married 64 years.
Ruth was a teacher most of her life. Because Ruth was bilingual, a majority of her teaching career was helping out the Spanish speaking students at Sargent School District in Colorado. Ruth spent her extra time crafting, gardening, traveling, and just enjoying life. She loved reading, writing poetry, and doing crossword puzzles. She was on the board of directors at the San Luis Valley Comprehensive Mental Health Center, and council women for the Monte Vista, CO city council. Above all Ruth was a family person. She was her happiest when she spent time with her family, church involvement and service to others. She was so dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and two children Lewis and Annette Romero.
Ruth is survived by her spouse, John Romero in KS, daughter, Lisa VanderVoort (Dirk) in KS, son, Frank Romero in AZ, daughter, Cathy Cornell in MN, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
