Larry Edward Snavely, 72, of Basehor, KS, passed away peacefully Monday, January 14, 2013. Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Noon. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
A longtime area resident, Larry was born November 10, 1940 in Tulare, CA, the son of Bill and Doris (Frost) Snavely. He was a graduate of the Kansas Barber School, Wichita, KS and worked with his brother Bill at the “Barber Shop” from 1959-1974. He then worked as a maintenance engineer for the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Lazy Acres Baptist Church in Edwards, MO; member of the Moose Lodge; member of the KS State Rabbit Breeders Assn., National Rabbit Breeders Assn., had been a director of several rabbit associations, and he occasionally judged competitions. He enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing and was very personable. Larry liked all sports, playing basketball in High School, but he LOVED KU Basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Billy Snavely and grandson: Brent Benson.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Linda Snavely; son: Mark Snavely and wife Patricia of Peculiar, MO; daughter: Nancy Jirik and husband Jim of Bonner Springs, KS; sisters: Irma Owen of Bluffton, S.C., and Norma “Corky” McCray of Midland, TX; sister-in-law: Betty Snavely of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren: Brad Benson of Independence, MO, Megan Knight and Matthew Knight of Bonner Springs, KS; great-grandchildren: David and Jacob Benson; great great-grandson: Kein Benson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
