Larry Charles O’Brien, of Basehor, Kan., passed away on May 21 at the age of 75. Larry was born on October 21, 1941 in Rockview, W. Va. to Charles and Beulah O’Brien. He graduated from Oceana High School in 1959. He married Sally Trimble on February 2, 1963 in Davin, W. Va. He joined the service in 1960 and proposed to Sally the day he came back from the army in 1963. They just celebrated 54 years of marriage because they were the loves of each other’s lives. He worked as a welder and inspector for TrailMobile for 17 years and later worked for Amoco and BP Amoco for 19 years. Larry was an incredible father and the best grandfather; he set the bar extremely high. He never missed a soccer, softball, basketball or baseball game and he would drop everything to be with his grandchildren. Larry was known for helping strangers and his generosity had no bounds. He was an avid KU basketball fan and he enjoyed watching NASCAR and traveling with his wife. Larry is preceded in death by his mother and father. Larry is survived by his wife, his daughters Kelly (Steve) Long and Shannon (Mike) Callahan, brothers Jimmy (Wanda) and Eddie (Louis) and his sister Phyllis (Dale), his brother-in-law Marshall Brown, longtime family friend Linda Greene, and his five grandchildren Ellie, Stevi, Luke, Logan and Baleigh. The visitation and service was Thursday, May 25 at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home.
