Claude “Larry” Larrabee, 86, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012, at the V. A. Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 20th, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 12:30 P.M. at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that any contributions be made to The Disabled American Veterans.
Larry was born December 27, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Lester Floyd and Essie Lorraine (Ashley) Larrabee. He had been a resident of Trenton, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania before moving to the Kansas City Area 59 years ago. Larry was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, and an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 253rd Infantry Regiment, and earning 2 Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, a past member of The American Legion, and was also a member of the 63rd Infantry Blood and Fire. Larry was a Welder for Southwest Ornamental Iron until his retirement in 1971. He had attended Bethel Lutheran Church, and he loved camping and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Lester Larrabee.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Beverly Larrabee of the Home; his son, Glenn Larrabee of Independence, Missouri; his daughter, Marsha Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; a special son-in-law, Walt Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; 3 sisters, Margery Nagy, Mary Larrabee and June Frochlich, all of Florida; and 4 grandchildren, Brenna Larrabee, Daniel Larrabee, Christopher Smith and Joshua Smith.
