Kenneth James Egan died peacefully at his family home in Kansas City, KS. Kenneth is survived by his son, Toussaint Egan of Montgomery, IL; his siblings, Joyce Taylor Haynie (Edward) of St. Louis, A. Byron Egan (Joycelyn) of Kansas City, KS; his parents, Virdean M. Egan and Arthur J. Egan; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Kenneth was born on March 30, 1956. He graduated from F.L. Schlagle High School in 1974. He joined the Navy shortly afterwards and was honorably discharged after serving for four years. Kenneth continued his education by attending Boward Junior College in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He received a degree from the Florida International University of Hospitality, where he specialized in Hotel Management. Kenneth worked at the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, MO and at the Fairmount Hotel in Chicago, IL. Later, he worked for the Fox Valley Pace Transportation System in Aurora, IL.
Kenneth was baptized at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on August 6, 1966. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, pastored by Rev. Jeremiah Wright. After enduring a long illness, he relocated to Kansas City in October of 2018, and united with the Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church of Kansas City, KS, under Rev. Steven A. Cousins.
He was a marathon runner and participated in many races and three large marathons with his favorite cousin, Mellonee Carrigan Mayfield. Kenneth was a collector of books and an avid reader. He had a gregarious and bubbly personality and brightened the lives of all he met.
Friends may call from 9:00-10:00am, Thursday, March 14th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. Interment with Honors will be 11:00am at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
