Joseph (Joe) Lee Scherer, 84, of Overland Park, KS passed away on Feb. 26, 2021. Visitation will be Fri. March 5 from 5-7 pm with a Rosary starting at 6:30 pm at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Sat. March 6 at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1086 N 94 St, Kansas City, KS 66112. Graveside to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Joe was born on Jan. 9, 1937 in Effingham, KS to Emil and Regina Scherer. He was a man of God and was devoted member of both St. Pats and Holy Spirit Catholic Churches. He served in the Army Reserves. In 1960, he married Angeline O’Brien and together raised five children. Joe was a big family man who adored his family and often shared how proud he was of his children and grandchildren. Joe worked as an electrician for Procter & Gamble before retiring in 1997 after 40 years of service.
Joe was exceptionally proud of his garden and loved spending his time outdoors. He also was an avid ping-pong player and won many corporate tournaments. He and his doubles partner, Ed Hoffman, always ‘held court’ as Joe would say. In 1987, he married Sharon and together they spent retirement years traveling the world. He cherished the many memories of their years together. Joe was loved by so many and will be dearly missed.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Regina (Enzbrenner) Scherer; and first wife, Angeline.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Sylvester (Jane) Scherer; children, Deborah (Ralph) Pratt, Yvonne (Joe) Johnson, Dean (Kim) Scherer, Dianne (Maurice) Tafolla, and Donna (Kevin) Williams; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; companion, Sharon Scherer; along with many other family members and dear friends.
