Joseph W Nelson Jr.

Joe was born March 7, 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas to Kathryn (Sambol) Nelson and Joseph W. Nelson, Sr., graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1952. In 1956 he married Willa Mae McQueen. He worked as an industrial photographer for Westinghouse in 1956 and then Bendix in August, 1957. He did part time police work for Kansas City, Kansas starting in 1972. He retired from Allied/Signal in March 1986 and went to work for Edwardsville, KS police department, working until 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Stephanie Leanne; sister: Carol Ann Hiller; and brother-in-law: Bud Hiller. Surviving are his son and daughter in law: Matt and Sheryl Nelson of Shawnee, KS; granddaughter: Stephanie Garnett and her husband Ryan of Bonner Springs; grandson: Adam Nelson and his wife Jennifer of Raymore, MO; his former wife: Willa Simmons of Fountain Hills, AZ and many relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 11:00 Thursday, December 22 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th Street. Interment will follow in Gates of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 until service time, Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
