John “JB” A. Brewer, 90, departed April 27, 2013 surrounded by family. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 4th from 10:00-11:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Burial will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
JB was born August 22, 1922 in Sunflower Mississippi to John Sr. and Ora Etta Brewer both from Mississippi. He attended the Kansas City, Kansas school district. John joined the Navy and served with his two brothers in World War II. JB was married to Lorene Thomas on December 19, 1951. He was a devoted father to Lorene’s two daughters; Joyce Dixon and Anna Coker who preceded him in death. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, JB worked for the railroad and a packing company. He also worked for BPU and retired after 24 years and worked another 10+ years UMB Bank. During his life, JB enjoyed bowling, billiards, and playing cards. He also sang in the “Little Wonder Trio” with his brothers. JB was also known to entertain family and friends at his backyard BBQ’s on most weekends.
JB was preceded in death by his parents; 3 siblings, Robert, Arthur, and Carrie; wife, Lorene; and daughters, Joyce and Anna. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his brothers wives,’ Phyllis and Roberta; a loyal son-in-law, Carl Dixon; cousin-in-laws, Inez Allen and Frank Jr.; grandchildren, Sherita (Tym Cann) Williams-Coker, Darren (Monica) Dixon, Kim Dixon, Brad (Saundra) Dixon, and Brian (Caroline) Dixon; 9 great-grandchildren (of the home, Ereka); many great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
