Jan Alston, born September 24, 1956, passed away on May 4, 2023. Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 12th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 701 N 94th Street, Kansas City, KS. Funeral services will be at noon on Saturday, May 13th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home as well.
Jan was a very special woman with a love of life, family, and travel. She was raised in Overland Park, KS, attended Shawnee Mission North High School and was a graduate of Kansas City Kansas Community College. Jan retired from Medical Surgical Eyecare in 2016 after 21 years of service and prior to that, she worked 16 years at University of Kansas Medical Center. Jan enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, trips to the casino, spending time with family and friends and she absolutely loved her Kansas City Chiefs! She was a historian and had a memory like a trap; if you couldn’t remember something or needed someone to “vouch” that your story was true, you could count on Jan for that confirmation. She had a great sense of humor and was often the source of much laughter at work. She was a good listener and gave great advice.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Arthaniel “Butch” Alston, her father, Glenn Bowers and her son-in-law, Gene Harris. She is survived by her mother, Esther Bowers, her four children: Nicole Alston-Harris, Phillip Alston, Micheal (Tiffany) Alston and Erica Alston. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her 7 grandchildren Geena Harris, Jayde Alston, Micheal Alston II, Leah Alston, Elyse Cunliffe, Kingston Cunliffe and Kinslee Cunliffe; a great-child, Romeo Suarez and one on the way; two sisters-in-law, Anna and Brenda and two brothers she recently found thanks to Ancestry, Dickie and Dale Allison and a host of family and friends. Jan will truly be missed by her loved ones.
