Irene Ruth Stuart, 94, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 at Country Place Senior Living Center in Basehor, Kansas. Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 15th at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests contributions to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
Irene was born October 26, 1922 in Burlington, Kansas to George and Ruth (Carroll) Thomas, and she spent most of her adult life in Kanas City, Piper and Tonganoxie, Kansas. She worked in assembly for Midland Electronics before becoming a Sales Associate at J.C. Penney. Irene is a past member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and Christ The King Catholic Church, both in Kansas City, Kansas, and she was a member of the Tonganoxie Ladies Group. She enjoyed gardening and growing both flowers and vegetables, and especially loved creating all sorts of craft projects. She mainly enjoyed crocheting, macramé and ceramics. Irene also loved to travel and she was known to spend her winters in Arizona until recent years.
She was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Vincent Walleck in the 1980s and Russell Stuart in 2009.
She is survived by 5 children, Joseph Walleck of Ottawa, Kansas, Nick Walleck and his wife Carol of Easley, South Carolina, Larry Walleck of Basehor, Kansas, Kathleen Shepek and her husband Larry of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Lawrence Walleck of Basehor, Kansas; 1 sister, Barbara Bates of Nevada; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
