Harold S. Withers, 91, of Kansas City KS, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 22nd at Sunset Hills Christian Church, 6347 Leavenworth Rd, Kansas City, KS 66104. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Harold was born July 1, 1923 in Edwardsville, KS to Sydney and Myrtle Withers. He graduated from Edwardsville High School and immediately volunteered to serve in WWII wherever the need was greatest. The recruiter directed him to the Merchant Marines, where he saw active duty around the world. Harold worked for Cook Paint & Varnish for many years and then started and grew his own business, Professional Shoppers Service, providing quality food products to a variety of institutions. He raised two children in his first marriage to Victoria Connor Withers. His second marriage to Ona M. Withers ended with her death in 1986. He married RoseAnna (Yunghans) Edmondson on June 4, 1988, and they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in 2013.
Harold will be remembered most for his ceaseless curiosity, his service to others and his dedication to hard work. His goals every day were to “learn something and accomplish something.”
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Lesley and Edwin Withers, his second wife, Ona Withers, his grandson, Steven Connor and his great-granddaughter, Ashley Connor.
He is survived by his wife, RoseAnna Withers of KCK; his step-son, Theodore Patrick Connor (Margery) of Ft. Myers, FL; his daughter, Pamala Withers Foresman (Larry) of Burlington, MA; his step-son, James Edmondson (Peggie Jo) of Middletown, DE; his sister, Faith DeBonis (William) of KCMO; his grandchildren, Tami Connor of Topeka, Dennis Connor of Bensalem, PA, David Foresman of Cambridge, MA and Julia Foresman of Brooklyn, NY as well as two great-grandchildren and many friends.
