Cece, George, Tim and Jill: There's nothing about Doc I can tell you that you don't already know. He loved his family very much. He was respected in Lynchburg not only because of his profession, but also because of who and what he was as a man. I'm smiling now because the last time I spoke to Doc, he had yelled "Davis!" at me; he said he thought I was trying to ignore my neighbor. But that was Doc--if he knew you, he spoke to you (and probably spoke to you even if he didn't know you). Through the tears, smile knowing that he's reacquainting himself with those gone ahead. Jesus is with you.

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your father. I have never forgotten the hospitality your Dad and Mom extended to me during my years as a boarding student at Virginia Episcopal School.  I particularly remember your Dad's way of always making me laugh and feel at home even when he would ask me to help him clean out the stalls in the barn.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of  Franklin. I had the pleasure of meeting him last year when he came to visit my mother in California. They had  been friends in High School and hadn't seen each other for 60 years! He had a beautiful smile with a great sparkle in his eyes. He was handsome, funny, charming, and quite the gentleman. My family and I enjoyed listening to the stories he and my Mother shared All though the visit was brief, I felt as though I had known him all my life. When I think of him I smile.

Dear Jackson Family, My heartfelt sympathy to you all, I remember going to Dr. Jackson with my grandmother many times, sometimes not so pleasant, because of my fear of dentist, but somehow we got through it.  Over the years I kept up to date with him through Betty, and learned that he had a wealth of history about Lynchburg.  I know you all have preciouis memories you shared with Doc and may they bring you all comfort and peace.

Realizing that this is a difficult time for you, it is my prayer that the Heavenly Father will give you peace and comfort during this difficult time. Remember the good times on summer vacations, when Dad had those one-on-one with just you, when he taught you lessons on life, when he told you about the importance of goal setting, when he made you laugh/cry, when he told you that he loved you, when he told you about your rich history, when you went to the NDA conferences as children and most of all-- the importance of keeping the Family together.
We spent hours and hours together at home,out riding the country side, or at the nursing home. Your Dad was a wealth of imformation. Again, I am not telling you anything new. He called me his "personal counselor", an honor I shall forever charish. I thank Doc and you for letting me be a part of the family. Finally, the same love that I had for YOUR DADDY, I now extend to you.

"Doc" was a loved and cherished friend or ours for most of the 25 years we have lived in Lynchburg.  He was a fount of information about so many of life's practical problems.  We will sorely miss the many conversations and visits we shared over the years. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of sadness.  May you find comfort in the enduring beauty of God's world, and in the warmth of happy memories.
