Ford Wayne Miller, Sr., of Kansas City, Kansas, formerly of Nevada, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Providence Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 19 at Sunset Hills Christian Church, 6347 Leavenworth Rd., Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Friday at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701. N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Interment will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Sunset Hills Christian Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
Ford was born August 20, 1924 in Nevada, Missouri to Frank and Margaret Miller. He graduated from Washington Rural High School and then Findley Engineering Institute. Ford served in World War II in the Army Air Corp, going on 59 missions as a flight engineer and tech sergeant. He was involved in the European theater, stationed in Italy. Ford was awarded an Air Medal with three Bronze oak leaf clusters and the Good Conduct Medal. He married his wife Rosemary Hindman on November 26, 1947. Ford came back to Kansas City and worked in Research Processing at Certainteed St. Gobain Corporation for 42 years. He was a VFW Member, a Trustee and Deacon at Sunset Hills Christian Church, a Liondotte little league baseball coach. Ford was an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards with friends, camping, boating and traveling in his RV. Ford loved his family and was always up for an adventure. He was also known as “Mr. Fix It,” and one of the “smartest guys I know” according to many, with the ability to fix almost anything. His favorite saying was “I may not always be right, but I am never wrong.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Miller, as well as sisters, Wuanita Shryer and Margie Horner.
Ford is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rosemary Miller, daughter Victoria Carvalho and husband Thomas of Manhattan, KS; son Ford Wayne Miller, Jr. and wife Cathy of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter Cinda Vining and husband Joe of Tecumseh, KS; son Myles Miller and wife Tami of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends and other family.
