Deaconess Emma Jean (Walker) Henderson passed, passed October 6th, 2018 peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was born October 12th, 1940 in Hawkins, Texas. She was born to the union of Marco and Jennie V. Walker as well as eight siblings who preceded her in death: Rosie M. Williams, Ollie M. Hubbard, Joseph Preston, J.P. Walker, Maxine Marshall, Gloria Black, Hugh L. Walker, and Mattie McLaughlin.
On August 17th, 1957, Emma married the love of her life James Earl Henderson, who preceded her in death May 16th, 2016, after 59 years of blissful marriage. To their union 5 children were born, Bernon James Henderson, Irwin Dewayne Henderson, Evelyn Doloris Jones (John), Janelta Henderson, Karron Duane Henderson (Christine) all of whom live in Kansas.
Emma leave to cherish her loving memories: (8) grandchildren, Gregory Martin, Dorthia Jackson (Jewell), Nena Nix, Adrian Maddox (Qiana), Karron D. Henderson Jr., Janee V. Henderson, Benjamin J. Henderson, Cherelle M. Henderson all of Kansas, adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves two sisters, Leola Polk (Jacob) of Dallas, Texas and Viola Henderson (Lester) of Terrell, Texas, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins as well as dear friends.
Emma accepted Christ into her life at a young age. She went on to serve in various auxiliaries within the church. She spent her later years serving as an Usher and alongside her husband as a deaconess.
She retired from Presbyterian Manor in 1990 as the Director of Dietary, one of only three directors ever to hold that position. Emma went on train her successor offering lasting words of advice to do their best but not be afraid to take chances or make necessary changes.
Emma was a God-fearing woman, devoted wife, loving mother and fiercely loyal friend. To know Emma was to love her. Her laughter and smile were infectious. She was known for her hospitality and Sunday dinner invitations. Emma loved cooking, entertaining and fashion. She was notorious for her keen sense of style and picking out suits to coordinate with her beloved husband.
